Training Abroad for U.S. Citizens



Program Summary


Training and Work Experience Abroad is Available in the Following Career Fields:
  • Agriculture & Horticulture
  • Forestry & Fisheries
  • Natural Resource Management & Related Fields
(Specific options vary depending on the country(s) requested for placement.)
Services Provided by Experience International
  • Contact with country representatives (fax, phone, email, and express mail)
  • Help with documents necessary for visa and/or work permit.
  • Handbook covering culture shock, what to pack, and what to expect.
  • Placement and Program Evaluations
  • Re-entry culture shock information
  • Support in the event of an emergency and/or difficulties encountered abroad.
  • Personal accident/health insurance policy (on request)
Finances & Insurance
  • Participants will, in most cases, receive wages and/or combination of stipend, room and board. Amounts vary by country, participant's background, and nature of placement. Volunteer positions also available
  • Participants are responsible for international travel and misc. travel and living expenses abroad.
  • Health and travel insurance is required and may be purchased through E.I. with CISI International.

Applicant Qualifications


Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria to qualify for the program.
Criteria is set to help assure that applicants have a documented commitment to their career.
Criteria may vary from country to country and experience may substitute for education or education for experience.

Age 21 years or older; Married couples may apply depending on country.
Experience Two years minimum work experience in field related to agriculture, forestry, fisheries, or natural resource management.
Education Two years minimum education in field related to requested placement.
Health No physical or mental health problems that would limit activities
or pose potential safety problems for self and/or others.
Language Requirements vary depending upon the country requested for placement.
References Documented commitment to career and capacity to be a good "ambassador" while abroad.

Please include in your Resume/Request the information requested below.
In preparing your documents, remember that these may be shared with potential hosts abroad and should be well prepared and presented.
We will review your information, then contact you with how we might proceed.

RESUME
Description:
  • This is an outline of your work/education history.
  • 1-2 typed pages.
Please include:
  • Career Goal: 1-2 sentence statement.
  • Full Name, Date of Birth, Phone Number, Fax Number, Email, and Current Mailing Address.
  • Work Experience: Employer, Start/End Dates, Total months employed, Hours per week, Title and Responsibilities (Start with most recent position FIRST).
  • Education: School Name, Dates, Degrees, Major Subjects (Start with most recent FIRST).
  • Practical Training or Apprenticeships: Name, Dates, Description of Activities. Include Safety Training.
  • Languages spoken and fluency in each language.
  • Countries visited, dates, and purposes of visits.
  • Autobiography including participation in community organizations/activities, awards/honors received, personal interests and special qualifications.
PLACEMENT REQUEST
Description:
  • Describe your "ideal placement".
  • This is your chance to tell us what type of placement you would like.
  • Be as specific as possible.
  • Earliest date you'd be available/interested in beginning your program.
  • Total duration of time you'd like to be abroad.
  • Date, if any, that you must return to the States.
  • 1-3 typed pages.
Preparing your Statement

  • What duties or responsibilities would you expect?
  • What specific skills do you want to learn or improve?
  • What kinds of projects would you like to be involved in?
  • How will this placement help you when you return to the States?

Program Fees and Refunds


Program Fee $450: One time placement fee.
Payment of Program Fee
  • Program Fee is payable in full once EI determines that applicant qualifies for the program and begins working on placement.
  • Payment can be made by check or money order. Visa/Mastercard not accepted.
  • Refunds
  • $150 of Program Fee is non-refundable
  • $300 refund if EI is unable to place applicant.
  • $150 refund if applicant cancels prior to confirming placement
  • No refund if applicant cancels after placement is confirmed.
  • Other Fees
  • Organizations in the country of placement may charge placement, supervision, and other program fees.
  • Fees charged vary from country to country/year to year.
  • These fees are paid directly to the partner organization, not Experience International
  • Applicant will be informed of these fees at the time of application.
